General Information
Long ago, on another world, it is said that elves created through magic and careful breeding a species of canines that were a perfect match for themselves. Through various means some of these canines crossed to Teragaia and crossed with wild wolves, producing the modern-day Illaro. Average-sized when compared to mundane wolves, Illar are clearly set apart from these cousins at first glance by the intelligence in their eyes, their ability to mindspeak, and the runes that glow upon their bodies. These runes, both the color and the location of, identify members apart from other ranks. Aside from that, they appear much as normal wolves both in size and with coats ranging from browns to grays and sometimes pure white, though these shades are always a richer, more vibrant hue than can be found in normal wolves. Male Illar will have a thick 'mane' of fur around their necks, while the females do not. Very long-lived, Illaro are considered by the pack and appear fully-grown at no less than fifteen years of age and will live, barring grave injury, well into their first century, displaying the longevity of their elven creators. Sharp-eyed to see detail at hundreds of feet and keen of hearing, they make excellent hunting companions with a loyalty sustained from their first creation; to the one they bond to, they will never be swayed into betraying. Very family and clan oriented, the one thing they cannot stand is to be alone. Even the most antisocial of Illar will wander into rooms where others are, if for no other purpose than to sit and sulk in company. Typically, Illar take pleasure in the simple things and appreciate art, poetry, and song, though they are not pacifists by any means and will gladly throw down into a battle. Every moment is for living, and they are determined that in the end of their lives they will have no wasted a single one. Illar mindspeak fluently, though a few ranks also have an instinctive knowledge of the elven language of their origin, and can even speak it aloud. Mating Information Illar only will mate during either a full, quarter, or new moon, depending on rank, when it is high in the sky. The leader of the chase, either male or female, will usually find a high place, like a hill, ruin, or stone, and howl to attract suitors. When enough have gathered, the lead Illaro will race off in a run that is equal parts chase and dance, with all members howling in concert with the object of the chase. This 'song' can be heard for miles around, and sounds both haunting and beautiful. While violence is discouraged, sometimes fights do occur as the emotions of the moment overwhelm the participants. At a time of the leader's choosing when he or she has chosen a suitor - either by speed, grace, song, or physical beauty - they will turn the chase about and come running up alongside their pick. Sometimes it does happen that there will be more than one chosen, at which time the initiator will mirror first one, then any successive suitors until all are gathered. Those left unchosen are expected to depart peacefully, to leave the pair (or group) to their seclusion. Bonding Information Illar pups are ready to bond at what might seem like a very young age, as physically they will appear to be just a few months old, but in reality they are well over a year and already have learned quite a bit from the elders in their clan, as well as any humanoids and shinies they are in the company of. They already can mindspeak well, and for those ranks able speak aloud a few words. Many of them will bond to humanoids that display an appreciation for something they find of great value, be it art, poetry, music, battle skill, or crafting, though some will bond to try to bring said appreciation to the lives of others who are lacking. Ranks Quessar 5* The Quessar are the rulers of the Illaro, graceful and elegant creatures both male and female working well with the lords and lesser queens in their clan as well as their bondeds and family of shinies to ensure harmony and strength. Infused with powerful arcane magics from the origin of their lines, Quessar are able to call upon floating orbs of colored light that dance upon the air at their command, illuminating like a torch or lantern. A Quessar's runes are always a golden-yellow in color, with one appearing upon their brow, and the others encircling their neck like a collar. Able to speak elven aloud, they chase during the quarter moon, and a female bears between six and nine pups. Shay 4* This rank of Illaro are technically both junior queens and lords, for they can be of either gender. Shay are considerably more mysterious than other ranks, slipping along silently and always seeming to know more than they should. It had never been proven but some theorize they share in the knowledge of the generations of Shay to have come before them. While other ranks can be of any natural shade, Shay tend towards the lighter grays and even pure white, with frosty blue runes running from the crest of their heads along their spines to the base of their tails. Female Shay may bear four or five pups. Tellar 3* These Illar lords are generally skilled in matters of diplomacy, and they can conduct themselves well whether they are in the forest with their clan or accompanying their bonded into high society even if it's an act and they'd behave differently in casual settings. Their runes glow a silver color and are positioned along their shoulders like a mantle. A female Tellar will birth around four pups. Sylvan 2* Sylvans are rather wild Illar, blending perfectly into the forests and wildlands. While all Illar are skilled with hunting and tracking, this particular rank trains themselves to be the master of their environment, no matter where they are. Have a trail that's a week old, or covered by snow, or washed out by rain or goes through a river? A Sylvan can track it to its end! Their forest-green runes form a band around their eyes and around their legs, and they can be male or female with both capable of speaking a tongue they call Sylvan, the language of plants and animals. A female will bear one or two pups. Ilythiir 1* The relationship between the Ilkythiir and other Illaro is a vicious cycle. Illythiir Illar warred with the other ranks in the past and due to treachery they aren't often trusted by other Illar ranks. Many Illythiir, in reaction, tend to be scornful of other Illar or untrusting of them in turn or even jaded, even should they be perfectly fine and friendly around others. Though difficult, it is possible to have an Illythiir Illaro coexist with other Illar ranks; a Bonded will have to be very patient though. But perhaps in return for their pariah status the Illythiir were given a small recompense: they can see in both infrared and ultraviolet spectrums, meaning darkness has little hindrance for them. Although Illythiir Illaro can be male or female, they are uniformly black in color with ebon runes, invisible in normal lighting. When they are in dim light to darkness, however, the runes that swirl all over their bodies become visible, glowing with a spectral, translucent light. They speak drow rather than elven, and can see in the infravision spectrum at will instead of having greater sight range. Females bear one pup. |
