Description
Brilliant avians, these creatures are closely connected to the elements of fire and heat, to the point that their feathers are continually licked with flames of a color and nature according to their rank. These flames do not normally cause any harm or damage, though all Phoenixes have the ability to Ignite, making a scorching blow with their wings, on top of having sharp talons and beak to rip at both food and foes alike. Mating When a phoenix is ready to mate, she will streak high into the sky, to the point where the air is thin and cold, leaving a trail of billowing flames in their wake. Once at the proper height, they will circle in a ring of fire until suitors have arrived and join the ring, after which the mating chase begins. She will abruptly streak off, leading the others through a flight that pushes the limits of endurance and courage. The speeds they will fly at run the risk of extinguishing their flames, so only the most determined and strong will be able to outlast all others and even the leader of the chase herself as she will bank back towards the earth at the last possible moment. When this happens, she will change the angle of her descent to come alongside her chosen mate, should there be more than one left standing. Then they will fly off together, taking one day to rest and recover their strength in addition to satisfying the actual purpose of the chase. Bonding After incubating for a month in scorching temperatures provided by the parents or a very attentive (and heat-resistant) bonded, Phoenix eggs hatch in a dazzling mini-detonation that leaves nothing but aches of the shells. The hatchlings are all dull ashy grey, and will remain this way until they either find their bonded or after a couple of days have passed. While there is no one guaranteed way to earn the admiration of a phoenix, treats of spicy foods or things to represent flames (rubies, candles, etc) are greatly appreciated. Ranks Flare 5* These Phoenix queens embody the hottest of the flame, that blue-white heart that burns so fiercely that it's cold, yet sears deeper than any other. Like that flame, they are regal, near-stoic beings, emotions held tightly in check. But like the fire, when provoked enough into releasing that iron-taloned grip, they display an intensity of feeling that leaves none around them unchanged for the experience. Standing about five and a half feet tall, a Flare's plumes are a mixture of white with blue tips to their wings and tailfeathers, and their flames are always blue-white. After a chase, female Flares lay between two and five eggs. Blaze 4* Mighty Phoenix lords, Blazes are creatures full of power and bluster. As courageous as they are fiery, they rush into conflicts with bravado. While they aren't ones to start fights, they are most certainly the ones to finish them, with slashing talons and burning wings. Standing just shorter than Flares at five feet, Blazes are as yellow as the sun with matching flames licking over their feathers. Female Blazes lay on average four eggs at a time, though that's with some give and take in either direction. Spark 2* Impulsive and flighty, the Sparks are bright little lights in the world. These Phoenixes have a hard time taking anything seriously, often darting from one activity to another while leaving the first half-finished. But above all, they are joyful creatures, spreading their cheer and zest for life with them wherever they go. Just touching four feet tall, Sparks are primarily Orange in color with a yellow tinge to the undersides of their wings and bellies, and their crackling flames mimic a cheery campfire's dancing yellow glow. Female Sparks will usually have around four eggs in their nests at any time, and love showing them off as might be expected. Flame 2* Flames are akin to the warmth of hearth and home on a cold winter's night. Affectionate and gentle, these Phoenixes rarely use their ignition ability to cause harm. One is more likely to use it to create a cozy fire or help out in the kitchen than attack anything! Amazingly they are also the only Phoenix rank that is known to sing, their fluting songs always melodic and pure incapable to reproduction by any other creature. Barely touching three feet in height, Flames are primarily a rich red in color, with deep orange bands on their wings and tail. After a chase, females will lay one to three eggs, though sometimes one will never hatch. Ember 1* Able to be either male or female, Embers are by comparison to their fellow Phoenixes rather dull creatures, both in personality and appearance. Very little excites them or causes them to panic, but perhaps surprisingly they are good listeners, able to keep all manner of secrets with ease. The only secret it seems they cannot keep are the ones that cause more harm by being kept, and due to their unflappable nature when an Ember says something is wrong, it's a fairly sure bet that they are right! While perhaps not the best in battle, or when you are feeling blue, Embers are still very valuable creatures even if they never act the part. The smallest of the Phoenix ranks, embers barely touch two feet tall, with ashy grey feathers speckled with reds and oranges. Rather than flames, the spaces between their feathers are always glimmering with sparks of fire, and they have never been seen to Ignite. |
